Remote insurance sales: a real work-from-home career.

Life insurance went fully remote — e-applications, instant-decision underwriting, phone sales. Here’s what the job actually looks like day to day, and how to tell a real opportunity from a churn shop.

Why life insurance went remote

Ten years ago this job meant driving to kitchen tables. Today the entire transaction is digital: carriers take e-applications, run instant-decision underwriting against prescription and medical databases, and issue policies the same day — no exam, no paramed visit for most simplified-issue products. The agent's car became a headset.

That changed the economics too. A remote agent licensed in multiple states isn't limited to one town's worth of prospects — your market is every state you're licensed in (non-resident licenses run as little as $15.60).

How to vet a remote insurance opportunity

The gap between the best and worst "remote insurance job" postings is enormous. Ask these five questions and the churn shops eliminate themselves:

  1. Where do leads come from, and what do they cost me? "We'll teach you to prospect" means "no leads."
  2. How many carriers will I be contracted with? One carrier means you sell what they have, not what the client needs. Look for 10+.
  3. Who trains me, and are they still producing? Live coaching from active closers beats a video library.
  4. Is there any fee to join or mandatory purchase? The correct amount is $0 beyond your own licensing.
  5. Can I see the commission grid in writing? Transparent agencies show you; the rest "discuss it later."

At Duse Financial Group the answers are: inbound leads provided from day one at no upfront cost, 25+ A-rated carriers, live training from producers writing business today, $0 to join, and the grid in writing during your first conversation. That's the standard you should hold any agency to — including us.

Remote sales FAQ

Is remote insurance sales commission-only?
At independent agencies, yes — 1099, commission-only. That's not a bug: it's why the ceiling is uncapped and why carriers can pay agents so well. If steady-paycheck security matters more to you than upside right now, this career will frustrate you. If you can handle 4–8 weeks of ramp, the math flips fast.
Do I need sales experience?
No. Agencies with real training systems regularly turn servers, teachers, and veterans into producers, because the products solve a problem people already know they have. Coachability beats a sales résumé.
What equipment do I need?
A laptop, a USB headset, and reliable internet. Your agency should provide the dialer, the CRM, the scripts, and the carriers. If an agency asks you to buy training or pay a platform fee before you can sell, walk away.
Is this one of those pyramid things?
Fair question — the industry has both. A legitimate agency pays you carrier commissions for selling real policies to real clients, and recruiting is optional. If the pitch is mostly about recruiting your friends, or income depends on people under you rather than policies you write, that's your cue to leave.
What hours do remote agents work?
Lead-driven telesales concentrates in late mornings, evenings, and Saturdays — when clients answer the phone. Full-time producers put in real 40+ hour weeks; the freedom is in choosing which hours, not in working fewer of them.
